Veterinarian, Owner

Dr. Stone (Bill) is a native Texan, born at Fort Hood, Texas a few yesterday’s past. He interned at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville in Large Animal Medicine and Surgery. Upon completion of the internship he returned to Katy, and became an associate at Katy Equine Clinic, owned and operated at the time by Dr. Mike Heitmann.

Reilly Wren, DVM

Veterinarian, Associate

After completing her undergraduate degree Reilly moved back to Texas to attend vet school at Texas A&M. Here her background in sport horses and barn management turned into a passion for sports medicine and general practice. Dr. Reilly believes that great performance starts with good management and she enjoys helping owners find the strategies that work best for their barn and horses.

Kai DeVoglaer

Veterinarian, Associate

Dr. Kai DeVoglaer is thrilled to be joining Katy Equine as an associate veterinarian! An Austin native, Kai grew up riding hunter/jumpers, . Following graduation from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine Dr. DeVoglaer completed a one-year internship at Rhinebeck Equine in the Hudson Valley of New York. Dr. DeVoglaer, along with her husband, Nick, and their dog, Delilah, is delighted to be back in Texas, bringing her experience and knowledge back to the community she grew up in.

Consulting Dental Practitioner

Carl Mitz, CEDP

Carl Mitz has over 25 years in Equine Dentistry and is a third-generation horseman. He has held State Racing Licenses in Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Arkansas and Florida to provide dental maintenance to racehorses. One of his most well-known accomplishments is his research and development of equine dental instruments and techniques for horses of all sizes and purposes.

Carl was certified in 1992 by the IAEDT and certified in advanced dentistry in 2002 by the IAED and last certified in 2013 by the EDPA. He is a past president of the IAEDT and IAED and current president of the EDPA.

He has been published in two veterinary manuals – equine Dentistry:

A Practical Guide by Pat Pence, DVM; and The Manual of Equine Dentistry by Tom Allen, DVM

He has also been an associate, consultant and volunteer for many organizations, universities and registries to promote the need for qualified dental providers to ensure the betterment and health of the horse.

In 2011, he was appointed to the Advisory Committee of the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.

Paola Cavazos

Paola grew up in Needville, Tx with a love for animals. She had many pets over the years, but at 15 she purchased her first horse. From there, her passion for the equine field grew. Paola graduated from Needville High School in 2021 and pursued an associates degree in in veterinary technology from the Vet Tech Institute of Houston which she completed in 2022. Paola joined the Katy Equine Clinic Team for her externship, and stayed on with the clinic full-time after its completion.

In her free time Paola enjoys spending time with her family, friends and pets. She also loves to travel and enjoys trying new things!

Heather Howland

Heather has been active in the equestrian community for 20 years and is an active hunter/jumper competitor. She prides herself on being a horseman first, and has teched in the industry for 6 years. Heather enjoys riding/training her hunter Laurent and jumper Bode at Topline Sporthorses as well as spending time with her retired jumpers Tulle and BB.

Office Manager

Lisa Workman, JD

Lisa Workman is Katy Equine Clinic’s Office Manager. Having loved horses for as long as she can remember, Lisa spent her youth showing the Hunter/Jumper A-circuit in New England through the junior levels. After attending college in Amherst, Massachusetts she came to Houston to study law where she ultimately earned her Juris Doctorate degree from South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas. After passing the Bar Exam in July, 2009 Lisa worked as a criminal defense attorney in Harris and Galveston counties. Today, Lisa helps run local stable, West Houston Hunter Jumpers, with trainer and partner, Brent Workman, where she continues to show in the hunter divisions.

Lucille Estes

An avid horseman from the get go, her momma couldn’t keep her away from the ponies. Lucille ran barrels and still occasionally wears the buckle she won in competition. Her daughter followed right in her footsteps. Lucille’s mantel is full of her daughter’s trophies competing in FFA and rodeo speed events.

Lucille has been married to John Estes for over 38 years. And they’ve been customers of Katy Equine almost as long. They have two pampered retired horses, April and Aurora and have just acquired a new horse, Peanut, that is making Lucille look forward to being back in the saddle again. “Just for trail riding”, she says.

She’s a Texas country girl and embraces all that it means. She takes care of Katy Equine with her heart and soul.
